indieDwell Commits to UN Sustainable Development Goals
In March we created the position of Chief Impact Officer, and leadership installed indieDwell Co-Founder Scott Flynn in the position, which suited him perfectly. Scott is a social and environmental entrepreneur with a strong passion for people and planet. Scott founded indieDwell to demonstrate the potential of human centered capitalism and how it could transform work, and positively impact the planet.
“The first thing I did in this new role was connect the specific environmental, social and governance actions we’re taking as a company to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals,” notes Flynn. indieDwell obtained Certified B Corp status in 2019, as well as GoodWell certification for promoting a dignified and humane workplace. The company’s business model creates economic development in distressed communities by building microfactories, which then manufacture affordable modular housing for the region. About 25% of the company’s hires are unskilled workers and with local educational partners indieDwell upskills its workforce through vocational training.
With all that capacity in place already, the company found a natural path to map to many of the UN goals. Over the course of the next few weeks we’ll cover each of the goals the company supports. We’ll detail our efforts on:
Eliminating poverty
Promoting good health and well being
Supporting quality education
Achieving gender equality
Improving water quality
Moving toward clean energy
Achieving full and productive employment
Promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization
Reducing inequality
Creating sustainable cities and communities
Practicing responsible consumption and production
Strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters
The way we’ve chosen to make measurable progress on goals such as these is to develop deep relationships with like minded partners - foundations, non-profits, housing authorities and developers that align with our mission. We’re grateful for the support of our many partners, and would not be here without them. If you are interested in helping us pursue these goals, reach out we’d love to hear from you.
Next week we’ll talk about indieDwell’s work at eliminating poverty in support of UN SDG #1.
